Thanks for your response.

The home router probably isn't gigabit, although the NICs in each 
machine are - good point.

/proc/mdstat reveals that the 1.8TB raid5s are also still synchronising 
- so I guess that'll be impacting DRBD sync speed

Do meta disks swell with disk size? I have a 500MB RAID1 /boot partition 
which I could jam it on, or should I create a (much larger?) RAID1 
partition dedicated to this purpose?
