Hi again, On 03/20/2012 09:50 PM, Miles Fidelman wrote: > If that's their attitude, how long is it going to be before they go > closed source? Bear in mind that besides developing an outstanding and absolutely free open source product, Linbit need to pay their bills, for which their own consulting and training services are a very important corner stone (or so I would believe). That being said, I'd consider it very smart to be supportive to (at least certain kinds of) competition that actually works towards farthering the total use (globally speaking) of the underlying free product. I cannot claim to be extremely versed where open source communities are concerned, but in the nicer communities I've known, it was an accepted fact and (from what I could tell) greatly appreciated feat (mutually) that besides the "vendor" (i.e. the corporate entity paying most of the core developers) there are other players that successfully built a business around the software and engage in both enriching the community by participating in fora such as the mailing list, as well as contributing to the product in form of patches, new developments etc. (No, this should really have been more than one sentence. Sorry for the inconvenience;-) Again: I am not in support of Miles' harsh critique, but my common sense reels at the prospect of the blacklisting issue. Sincerely, Felix
