Unlikely, but possible.

But, as this exact scenarios is working for everybody else, I'd say
whatever bugs drbd may still have, none of those would be relevant to
this scenario.

I'm not aware of such a directive.

If you are happy with rsync, by all means, use it.
It is a great tool for a lot of jobs.
