As a test, I applied the one-line bio_clone patch to the kernel and
then reinstalled 0.7.11. This also fixed the problem. Maybe you can
interpret these results:
unpatched kernel 2.6.11.4: 0.7.11 fails / 0.7.14 works
bio_clone patched kernel 2.6.11.4: 0.7.11 works
