Brrr. Don't do that. There is some sort of compat intended to initially
sync between 8.4 and 9, but I'd say it is one of the not so well tested
areas. It will most likely be gone with 9.1.0. In our experience most
people start from fresh with 9 or copy over the data.

If you can avoid it, avoid it. And use a recent version of DRBD 9.
