You can, if you wanted, mount /dev/sdb1 on each node as /var (or whatever) and also use the swap partition too. Just don't format/mount the <drbd> partition during install. The idea of configuring all 4 disks the same way is purely to ensure they're all partitioned identically, which in turn ensures the <drbd> partition will be identically sized on each disk.
