Hello Graham, thank you for your detailed answer. > Is it solely for scheduled backups? I'm currently evaluating what is possible. In an ideal world I'd like to have a full HA setup with two nodes perfectly managed by heartbeat and the passive node being responsible for backup and archiving :) > If you use LVM at the bottom of the stack (...) you're going to have 128MB of metadata on the end that doesn't interest you. Can't I put DRBD's meta data on another partition and only snapshot the actual data? If I understand you correctly, as long as there is a file system on top and the stack looks like: LVM2 -> DRBD -> XFS I should be able to do a snapshot, mount it rw and the filesystem will ignore the 128MB at the end? I understand that to restore I can't bypass DRBD. If I need to restore I have to move a lot of data anyway -- or I missed an option in LVM that allows me to "reapply" a snapshot back to the partition it was taken from. Thanks for your time. -- Regards, H.D.
