That was it.

I'm using similar values as Peter now:

     sndbuf-size       512k; (default)
     max-buffers      20480;
     max-epoch-size   16384;
     unplug-watermark 20480;

And it works! sndbuf-size I left to default as I didn't see much effect.

Are there any concerns related to these values ??

Still funny why I had high synch rates with my old config and kernel 2.6.16.
