Martin, It should work fine, I do not run gentoo but have DRBD running on Dual Opteron 270 and also on another set of servers with Dual Opteron 246. Everything has been running smoothly for almost a year now. The only word of caution is that if you use a bleeding edge kernel, there may be some issues (compiling or running drbd). If you have a very recent kernel and experience problems, search the mailing list for known problems. If you cannot find the answers then post to the list with log or oops information so that the developers can find and fix the problems.
