I've determined it's not a read-only issue, after putting the same version of DRBD and heartbeat on a writeable machine. I get System halted still. I am trying to use drbd with XFS, perhaps that is a problem? I'll try 0.7.8 and see if that fixes anything, and perhaps after that changing my partition type back to ext2 or perhaps disabling drbd to make sure at least the heartbeat script Filesystem can control the mounts.
