Thanks for the pointer. I stupidly overlooked that list thinking it was a copy of the others in another format. The removal of the suse specific spec file line was a big key. Also, in RHEL with the stock kernel running (installed from rpm binary, not self compiled source), there is no /boot/*.config file as referenced in the docs and the post. However, there are configs for the differnet stock kernels in /usr/src/linux/configs/.
