I figured out my mistake. In attempting to figure our my SSL woes I added a
-v option to the xinetd startup options figuring I'd get some more verbosity
in conjunction with the xinetd log_type option. Of course this was right
before I had the server moved some 600km to a collocation facility and
hadn't figured out the SSL problems before it left. When you mentioned the
strace option this was of course the first place I looked after it worked
fine from a command line -iii invocation.
The -v option isn't documented anywhere I've found (well I haven't looked on
the website recently). The only place that mentions it appears to be the
usage output when you run csync2 by itself.
