[Csync2] Some issues with csync: Too many open files, soft links and format-error

Hi Group,

I just started using csync to sync my web-server to a back-up machine. I
have been looking for such a tool for a very long time, so I am quite
pleased. But I do have some problems.

The setup:
The web server is runing FC4 and the receiving end is a FC5.
The first syncing went very well. Only problems was conflicts which I fixed.
I extended to csync a larger part. Still the csync went well.
I then forgot to sync for a while, and now I see a couple of issues:

1) Getting the "Too many open files" when syncing. I read one earlier mail
about the issue, but do not think that I have any system-wide issue with too
many files open. I will try to build a version with some errno print-out of
the issue when happening.

Work-around: run multiple times and the sync will finish.

2) Soft links in ext3: I saw an sync where directories with soft links had
been deleted on the sender side, but the soft links (now linking to missing
files) were marked as dirty on the receiving side, which had not been touch.

3) Now getting format-errors. I haven't been looking into this in depth, but
it happens for rather small syncs.

I would like to be able to use MySQL instead of sqlite? Would any other be
interested in that? If so I would try to find the time to patch csync2.

regards,
Dennis Schafroth
