Yes, i have installed both the packages drbd83-utils and kmod-drbd83. Still i am not sure where it went wrong. Since i am using this on VM running on 32 bit architecture, is this in anyway the bottleneck?

I tried installing this on RHEL 6.3 (Default Everything). I got the
package from elrepo, version is 8.3. While i am executing the command
"modprobe drbd", it is throwing the error "Cannot load DRBD module".
Did you install both packages? You need both drbd83-utils and kmod-drbd83. It sounds like you maybe only got drbd83-utils.

In any case, I've never needed to "modprobe drbd" on any of my RHEL boxes. With those two packages installed and the drbd service started, it works just fine.
