[DRBD-user] can I drbd an existing ext3 partition ?

Nope.

Resize that filesystem with resize2fs to make room for your DRBD
metadata, then once that is done create the metadata locally, then
create the metadata on a fresh partition on the peer node, and do an
initial sync.
