Hi Lars,

If you have BBUs in the raid card then try adding the following to the disk section:
no-disk-flushes;no-md-flushes;

What is the MTU set to on the LAN connection? 

Also in the syncer section try "cpu-mask 1" and "cpu-mask 5". The NUMA based architecture of Opteron boards means the CPU directly connected to the Raid card bus is usually faster.
