ok, update:
redhat kernel 2.6.9-42 and newer seem to be ok.
as current rhel kernel seems to be 2.6.9-67.0.1,
I still suggest to upgrade your kernel!

(and, as said before: 2.6.16 and up is good, regardless of distro)
