direct links of old sources may well be a few messages off.
This turned out to be a network device issue. Debian was not bringing up the devices drbd used when they were marked as 'allow-hotplug'. When I changed them to 'auto', things worked as expected. I had other servers with the same problem. Sorry for the noise. Thanks, Tom
