erease/initialize the drbd meta data; you already mentioned dd yourself.
but as long as it still connects to the other box,
and that box is smaller...  we obviously cannot export a device size
that we are not able to mirror.

That's what I did, but obviously with the mirrored system disconnected from
lan, but the result is ths same
